A collaboration with ANNA s.r.o as part of the Label4Future program

NMASA Design worked with ANNA s.r.o. through the Label4Future programme, a European initiative that connects SMEs with creative professionals to develop circular, sustainable and market ready plastic solutions. Additional collaborators included Carolin Liebl and Nikolas Schmid-Pfähler, who supported the project through material research and biodegradability studies. The challenge was to replace conventional single use food delivery packaging, which generates waste, performs poorly in brand presentation and increasingly conflicts with customer expectations and European sustainability goals. ANNA needed a solution that combined environmental responsibility with the premium image expected from quality restaurants.

NMASA Design led the strategic and creative development of a new packaging system made from biodegradable and reusable bioplastic materials. The studio carried out market research, analysed food delivery trends, reviewed competing packaging formats and studied the operational needs of restaurants. Based on this work, NMASA designed a family of containers for burgers, fries, salads and other meals, with forms inspired by refined tableware rather than disposable takeaway boxes. In parallel, Carolin Liebl and Nikolas Schmid-Pfähler investigated the decomposition behaviour of selected bioplastics, helping the client better understand material performance and end of life scenarios.

The project also introduced practical circular innovations, including adaptable branding systems that avoid glue or permanent labels, making recycling and material separation easier while creating new opportunities for loyalty cards, coupons and customer interaction. Through design, research and sustainability thinking, the team helped transform ANNA’s early concept into a credible proof of concept showing how premium hospitality packaging can become more desirable, reusable and environmentally responsible.

One of the innovations proposed by the studio was the use of the steam holes as card or coupon holders. This created an effective way to apply branding without the need for mould modifications or the use of glue. It also simplified the separation of components for recycling while creating a platform for marketing actions, promotional campaigns and direct interaction with customers.
